Ski resort Kitzsteinhorn/Maiskogel – Kaprun

Kitzsteinhorn/Maiskogel – Kaprun in short

  • Height: 768 - 3029 metres
  • Glacier skiing at 3000m
  • Varied skiing and good powder snow
  • Skiing from early October to late May

The Kitzsteinhorn and the Maiskogel are linked thanks to the 3K K-onnection gondolas. The newly linked ski area has more than 60km of pistes and reaches an altitude of 3029m above sea level. It’s an easy trip from the centre of Kaprun in the Maiskogel cable car. After a quick transfer at the Maiskogel (1570m), the 3K K-onnection completes the link to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier ski area, popular for its wide pistes and freeriding terrain. The Kitzsteinhorn was actually the first glacier ski area in Austria and stays open for skiing almost all year round. The Kizsteinhorn-Maiskogel ski area is also part of the Zell am See - Kaprun linked ski area, which is linked to the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn.

The high-altitude ski area at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is a popular training ground for professional skiers and snowboarders. If the pressure is getting to you, rest assured there are many mountain restaurants where you can take a break from the ski day. From cafés in the valley to the highest restaurant in Salzburg at 3029m above sea level, each mountain restaurant and terrace has its own unique style. Meanwhile, the Maiskogel is the perfect ski area for families and beginners. In the Maisi Park the kids can get a taste of freestyle skiing, and the wide, gentle slopes are perfect for learning to build confidence. Tired of skiing? Take a toboggan ride back to Kaprun on the Maisflitzer, which is open year-round. For a lunch break with spectacular panoramic views try the Alpengasthaus Glocknerblick, which has a cosy terrace with views of the Großglockner (3798m) and the Watzmann (2713m).
