Forget splashing out for a five-star hotel in a crowded city – La Plagne will put you up for the night in the world’s most unique hotel, inside a piste basher and surrounded by a thousand stars, more than 2000m above sea level.
The experience starts with a transfer (in a Jaguar, no less) from your hotel to Plagne Bellecôte. From there, you’ll be driven by piste basher to the top of the Arpette (2400m). The driver will show you around and then quietly disappear, leaving you to enjoy this romantic moment with your significant other. Inside the suite you’ll find all the comforts of a luxury hotel room: a double bed, heating, coffee, a minibar music and a home cinema. Still feel like something’s missing? Contemplate what that could be while you have a relaxing soak in the jacuzzi, which has a spectacular view of Mont Blanc. The next morning, the piste driver will return (no, you don’t have to figure out how to drive this thing!) before the pistes open.

Over the Moon costs €320 per couple – expensive, but reasonable if you compare it against the price of a fancy hotel room. Reservations can be done online up to 48 hours before the date. You’ll be picked up from your hotel at 9pm so make sure to grab some supper beforehand.

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
