Everybody knows who the most annoying person in a group of skiers and snowboarders is. It’s the person who nags everybody to wake up at the crack of dawn and keeps you on your toes all day trying to stick to their schedule. Or is it the one who makes you wait while they go back and get their gloves, stop for a bathroom break and stand in the queue to get a new ski pass because they dropped theirs on the bus? Maybe your group of friends doesn’t have either one of these people – but in that case, are you sure it’s not you? Take this quick quiz to find out if you’re the most annoying person in a group of skiers and snowboarders!
1. When you're on a ski holiday, what time do you wake up in the morning?
a) I have an alarm set for seven, so we can get to the breakfast hall before everybody else arrives, and be out the door and on the first lift at 8am. If nobody else is awake, I’ll harass them until they drag their arses out of bed.
b) I get up at half 9 and have my breakfast in peace and quiet. There’s no sense in waking up at the crack of dawn, but I do want to get some skiing in.
c) No idea – I don’t set an alarm clock. By the time I get up, everyone else is usually dressed and impatient to get out the door. Perfect, that way I don’t have to wait for anybody!
2. What state are you in by the time you reach the slopes?
a) Thanks to my scrupulous planning, we usually arrive relaxed and ready to go. Best-case scenario, we get first tracks.
b) There was a moment of chaos when we were scrambling to get everybody ready, but now we’ve all gathered our odds and ends and are ready to start our ski day.
c) We had to rush back and get my goggles, and I left my gloves on the bus but I think I can do without them. What’s this? I think I’ve misplaced my ski pass...
3. Are you ready to start skiing?
a) Of course! I’ve been ready since before the sun came out.
b) Definitely. I’m well-rested and well-fed and feeling at the top of my game! What’s our first lift?
c) Just a second, I know you’ve all got your skis on but I’m just going for a quick wee, won’t be a mo’.
4. What does your lunch break look like?
a) My friends seemed to be a bit tense over lunch because I nagged everybody to stop skiing at noon sharp so we could beat the crowds in the mountain restaurant.
b) It’s a no-brainer: we stop when we get hungry, maybe linger for a while over a coffee and then head back out on the slopes.
c) I skipped breakfast because I was running late; now it’s half eleven and my stomach is growling. Can’t we stop for lunch yet?
5. The lifts are about to close, will we go to an après-ski bar?
a) Serious skiers don’t après-ski. I’ll have a quick drink in a quiet bar and then head to bed early to be well-rested for another day of skiing tomorrow.
b) Of course, après-ski is a must! Looking forward to it!
c) Absolutely. But unfortunately, I seem to have left my wallet at the hotel, so someone will have to pay for me.
Result: Are you the most annoying person in your group?
Mostly A's:
Good news first: Don’t worry, you’re not the most annoying person in your skiing group. That title goes to the person who selected mostly C’s. But you’re not perfect, either. Your eagerness to make the most of your ski day makes the holiday feel regimented and may be stressing out the other people in your group. Try to chill out a little bit and remember the first aim of a ski holiday is to have fun!
Mostly B's:
You have nothing to worry about: you’re fun to ski with! You’re relaxed and easygoing but you don’t make people wait for you. If you do happen to forget something, nobody will hold it against you. You’re generally fun to ski with and a pleasure to be around. Congratulations!
Mostly C's:
We have a winner! You are officially the most annoying person in your skiing group. You might not notice it, but you always seem to be the one who sleeps in, forgets things and makes everybody wait for you. If you don’t want to be googling “ski holidays for one” this time next year, try to smarten up a little bit!
