Excellent, record breaking snow conditions, busy ski resorts, fully-booked accommodation and packed ski slopes - it seems that winter sports have managed to beat the recession this winter! After having a very good impression of this last winter season, I wanted to be sure that it wasn’t just an impression! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity of interviewing Vanessa Perret, the Directrice of the Tourist Office in the small ski resort of Orelle which is part of the Three Valleys, who confirmed many of my feelings about the fact that the 2012/2013 season was an exceptional one!
What recession!
Vanessa also confirmed that “after an excellent start to the season with an exceptional number of bookings for the Christmas period and an increase in off-season bookings, with a 30% increase in overall activity”, Orelle felt far from the recession this winter. “Local restaurant and shop owners were satisfied with the results this season and a disappointing 2011/2012 winter season”.
What global warming!
After closely watching the weather forecast this winter and often being astounded by the snowfalls, Vanessa from Orelle agreed that “a winter like the one we have just experienced does not confirm concerns about global warming - Orelle beat it’s own records this winter with over 8 meters of accumulated snow”… “and even though the spring sunshine was shy this season, thanks to the excellent snow conditions, clients were extremely satisfied, creating a very good all-round atmosphere in the resort and on the slopes”.
Highlights and projects
Vanessa found it hard to name one particular highlight of the season, saying simply that “the Gourmet Rendez-vous” and spring concerts were a huge success”. As for the next winter season, the installation of a brand new 6-seater chair lift will mean “less time spent going up and more time spent coming down”! Another good reason to visit the ski resort of Orelle…
Don’t wait until next season to enjoy the Three Valleys!
Don’t forget that Orelle, along with the other ski resorts in the Three Valleys, are open for summer holiday bookings – follow my series of articles about summer holidays in the mountains if you’re not yet convinced…
