Silver Star Mountain Resort in short
-
Height: 1609 metres
-
Environmentally friendly resort
-
Colourful ski-in, ski-out village
-
British Columbia’s third-largest ski area
SilverStar is an attractive Okanagan ski resort, modelled after a typical mining town and a favourite with families. Skiing here is the typical Western Canada experience, with deep powder and a healthy dose of runs through the trees. However, the ski area is also very beginner-friendly and offers lessons for every level as well as freestyle and adaptive snowsports lessons. Cross-country skiers will be particularly delighted with the 105km of Nordic trails.
The resort centre is laid-back and relaxed, with a smattering of restaurants and plenty of activities for the kids. The closest big city is Vernon, 22km away. There is a shuttle from Kelowna Airport just an hour away, as well as the Okanagan Ski Bus which does the rounds of the Okanagan region.
Alternate activities
SilverStar has 16km of snowshoe trails as well as ice skating, tubing, indoor climbing, horse riding, fat biking, bowling, arts and crafts nights, sledge riding and outdoor bonfires at night. If you’re after relaxation you can hit the spa or take part in a yoga session, or visit the local museum to learn about the local history. The all-inclusive ski lift pass includes access to many of these activities.
Restaurants and bars
There are a few on-mountain huts, including the Den which has live music and is the best place for après-ski. The Silver Grill is SilverStar’s fanciest restaurant and serves delicious Okanagan wine. However, for a truly special experience, visit the Paradise Camp or the Wild Horseman’s Cabin by snowcat or snowshoe. SilverStar is fairly calm at night but you can find nightlife at the Saloon, the Bulldog Café or Long John’s.
Families
All-day children’s lessons and daycare packages are available. SilverStar has a variety of options including Adventure Week, Breakfast Club and Kids Night Out; kids can try skating, tubing, rock climbing and other activities
